Frequently Asked Questions
Can’t I just Google birth information? You can! Online information requires significant discernment to determine what is accurate or right for you. The benefit of the Evidence Based Birth® Childbirth Class is that we curate all of the best, evidence-based information and engage you and your partner in the learning process.
Shouldn’t I just let the doctors and nurses tell me what to do? While many providers are wonderful guides, routine practices in some hospitals still lag 15 to 20 years behind current research, which might not serve your best interests. You and your support person will learn how to be your own advocate and use that advocacy to partner with your provider so you can all work as a team. These are transferable skills that you can use for the rest of your life!
I’ve heard that taking a childbirth class is a waste of time. There are a lot of poor-quality classes out there that have given childbirth education a bad reputation. The founder of Evidence Based Birth®, Rebecca Dekker, PhD, RN, APRN, has mastered making classes exciting for adults and made it deeply personal by training mentors all around the world! The result is a class that is motivating and fun to participate in. You will learn more than you could ever imagine!
Will I actually learn in this class? Students are most excited to learn about the entire toolkit of comfort measures for labor. Throughout the course, we cover pain management techniques like massage, water immersion, upright birthing positions, acupressure, music therapy, and deep breathing, just to name a few. When labor begins, no matter what setting you’re in, you and your partner will be empowered and ready!
